PC Based Simulators

Flight Simulators have come a long way, especially in the last several decades.

With the advent of the Silicon chip and faster more powerful Computers and 3D imaging devices,

We can now enjoy a virtual world close to reality all in the privacy of our own homes

The Father

Ed link is considered the creator of the first flight simulation devices.d

Ed's dad was an organ builder and as a young boy Ed worked in the shop where he developed a knowledge of pneumatic devices.

Ed got the great idea to build a flight training device after he witnessed a crash at an air show.

By today's standards Ed's device looks like a pony ride in front of the grocery store, but back then he was even able to sell it as far away as Japan where it was unwittingly used to train Pearl Harbor pilots.

The Son

A young college student developed the first computer based flight simulator for a Masters project.

It did not take long for a young entrepreneur at a small computer company called Microsoft to take notice and the rights to the product.

Thus began the first mass marketed version of Flight Simulator.

Evolution

Complete with current real world weather, real world frequency and nav data allowing you to fly with your favorite Jeppesen charts.

Third Party designers have developed just about every type of aircraft from the biggest cargo and passenger jets to the smallest bush planes in G.A.

Scenery designers have remodeled all of the world famous major international airports and added animals and life to our favorite back woods seaplane fishing holes. The Internet has brought us to the next evolution of flight simulator,

virtual world pilots interacting with virtual Air Traffic Controllers using two way voice communication and radar services.
